Boylston Habitat

GREETINGS:

We welcome you to a brief summary of what the Habitat for Humanity -Boylston is all about. A former Boylston resident has given a plot of land to Habitat – Worcester, who in turn gave it to Boylston. We plan on building a two unit Duplex / Condo each having two floors. The homes will be constructed on Old Mill Circle in Boylston. We will break ground in April 2010. The following is Construction Information on our project.

  • Step #1 early on “now” is focused on the approval process from the Town boards.
  • Step #2 is identifying people that are going to volunteer “in kind services” to the project.
  • Step #3 is the actual construction work- typically on Wednesday and Saturday.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that provides simple, decent, affordable home ownership opportunities for low- income families living between 25-50% of the area’s median income. By empowering families in need with “a hand up, not a hand out,” Habitat sells the homes it builds or renovates to qualified and carefully selected low income families on a non -profit basis with an interest-free mortgage. Those selected for the Habitat program work through a curriculum to prepare for successful home ownership and are mentored by volunteer family partners. Each Habitat family must contribute 400 to 500 sweat equity hours helping to build its home. Habitat has an open-door policy welcoming applicants, volunteers, and supporters regardless of religious affiliation, race nationality or other background.

MISSION STATEMENT:

Habitat for Humanity - Boylston mission is to create a decent home in our community by working in continuing partnership, with those in need who are committed and able to become homeowners. We believe that the greatest means to assist families is in providing a home opportunity. Simple, affordable housing can have a profound impact on stabilizing a family, and providing long -term security. The Habitat program is one of self-empowerment: we offer families . A Hand Up, Not a Handout.
